Program Mission
The program mission is to provide, coordinate and arrange for effective legal guidance to the Penobscot Nation’s governing body and its administrative departments and to preserve and enhance the Penobscot Nation’s sovereignty through appropriate legal means (court cases, legislation, negotiation and agreement).
Department Responsibilities
Department responsibilities include reviewing, coordinating and addressing all legal issues presented by Penobscot Nation tribal government; advising Chief & Council and all tribal administrative departments on legal matters; initiating and defending any legal claims involving the Penobscot Nation; and drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts, agreements, deeds, mortgages, leases and all other legal documents for Tribal government.
