Message from the Chief

I hope this letter finds you well.  As you are likely aware, the longest federal government shutdown in history ended today.  While the shutdown created some challenges for us as a government, we were able to continue to function and provide service delivery to our people.  We understand that it has been a very difficult period for you as well with the rise in food costs, delays in benefits and other factors.  I am happy to share a few things with you. 

First, we have recommended, and the Council has authorized, significant resources be provided to the Nation’s food program.  Additionally, we will be distributing on Nov. 24^th entire thanksgiving meal packages to all those in need that may not qualify for the food pantry.  We have also purchased fresh meats from a local butcher and will be providing that to everyone in need as well.  We also have moose and deer meat available.  There will be more detailed notices to follow. 

Second, we also recommended, and the Council approved, two payouts to tribal citizens this year.  The first is the annual payout which has increased some from last year, and the second is a revenue distribution from our successful sports betting venture.  Our finance department is working diligently to get these funds out to you as quickly as possible.  These two payments will likely be disbursed a week apart.

I would like to give special thanks to our social services and finance staff for all their hard work in putting this together, and the Tribal Council for their support and attention to this effort.  It is my sincere hope that this provides some relief during a difficult time and provides some comfort during the holiday season.  Happy Holidays!
