Air Quality and Human Health Alert:

Air quality models are expecting smoke from Canadian wildfires to reach Maine by Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Particulate Pollution from the smoke is expected to raise the Air Quality Index outside of the moderate range throughout most of the state. 

Protect your health by avoiding strenuous outdoor activity. If you are indoors, close windows and circulate indoor air with a fan or air conditioner. Monitor for symptoms like shortness of breath, coughing , throat irritation, and/or an uncomfortable sensation in the chest.

Those most at risk include:

  • Children and teenagers
  • Individuals with heart and respiratory diseases
  • Elders
  • Individuals exerting themselves 
  • New or expect mothers

The Health Department has a limited supply of air purifiers available for pick up to those most at risk. Please call Carissa at 817-7484 if you are interested in getting an air purifier.
