Over the past several months, the community has seen an increase in skunk related incidents, in which domestic pets have been sprayed, trash bags being ripped open and spread about and citizens being startled by encounters with skunks during day light hours. To address this problem, the Penobscot Nation Departments of Natural Resources and Public Safety, has partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, APHIS, to assist in trapping and removing the animals from the community.

If you are experiencing issues with skunks around your property, and would like to have the APHIS, conduct trapping on your property, you will need to complete and sign a permission form.  This permission only applies to private property homeowners. The trapping of skunks on property controlled by the Housing Department, will be coordinated through PNHD.

Copies of the permission form will be available at the Department of Public Safety and when completed, can be returned there as well.
