PUBLIC COMMENT ON FUNDING TO IMPROVE HOUSING

The Penobscot Nation is seeking citizen comments on a grant received in the amount of $940,057 to provide funding for: 1) the  Rehabilitation of 13 units of aging housing that are impacted by poor air quality, and the increasing threat to air quality, due to mold and aging building systems and components that are increasingly not performing their intended function; and 2) Construct 4 ‘tiny homes’ that are suitable to ensure that households will remain housed during the pandemic, and not be subject to the chance for infection when group homes, or other ‘at risk’ housing is utilized because their current home can not any longer house them safely.  Priority for this activity will be given to those living in housing that is considered ‘beyond repair’, due to deteriorated housing conditions.

Citizen comments will be gathered and reported to the Department of Housing and Urban Development per the requirements of 24 CFR § 1003.604(a) through a requested Council Resolution that certifies compliance with the Indian Community Development Block Grant – American Recovery Plan Implementation Notice.  Citizens wishing to learn more and/or comment on the application may do so on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 4pm by following this link:
