Beginning Saturday January 24^th, the State of Maine is expected to experience a prolong period of extreme low temperatures, lasting for 6-7 days. During this period, community members are advised to be aware of exposure related health risks, to include frostbite, dehydration and other extreme cold temperature related issues. It is important that you limit your exposure to these conditions and have a safety plan in place for friends and family to check on one another, as we get through this together.

If the reservation experiences any power outages during this period, we will be opening a warming shelter at the Sockalexis Arena, which will provide a place to get warm and have charging stations for phones and other electronic devices.

We know that these cold temperatures place a high demand on the heating systems in our homes, which at times, leads to mechanical issues. If you experience issues with your furnace, heat pumps or other heating devices, you are asked to contact the Public Safety Department, who will in turn contact either the Housing Department or the Department of Social Services, to assist you.
