Team Penobscot
Dear tribal citizens,
I hope this note finds you and your families well. It is my pleasure to share some happy news. Team Penobscot participated in the United States Canoe Association’s National Canoe and Kayak Championships held in Northfield, Massachusetts from August 7ththrough August 10th. Team Penobscot includes several youths from our community.
We are excited to report that Team Penobscot won a total of 60 medals during this competition: 30 gold, 22 silver and 8 bronze. We are extremely proud of the team and applaud their dedication and impressive accomplishments. As we all know, paddling is a deeply rooted custom for Penobscot people, and we are pleased to know that these young people are upholding and preserving this proud tradition.
Special thanks to John Neptune, Michael Augustine, Bem Galipeau, Damon Galipeau,Mark Ranco and Irving Sapiel for their mentorship and support of the team.
Again, congratulations to Team Penobscot! We are all extremely proud of you and your accomplishments and how well you are representing our Nation.
In Gratitude,
Kirk E. Francis, Chief
