I hope this letter finds you and your families well.  We are excited for some return to normalcy as we are set to hold our first community day events in two years on Friday and Saturday of this week.  First, I want to thank everyone involved in planning and coordinating these activities.  Also, please note that there is a heat advisory warning for this weekend, and we will be offering ways for people to safely participate.

Dear Tribal Citizens,

I am writing with a heavy heart to let you know that the Tribe’s petition to the United States Supreme Court to hear our appeal of the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal’s decision on the river case was denied today. As you are aware, we have been involved in a decade long legal battle with the State of Maine over its assertion that our reservation is made up solely of the islands in the river and that we have no rights to the waters surrounding them.  We pursued legal action to protect the Tribe’s territorial, cultural and spiritual connections to the river.
